On the 6th of October, under the guidance of volunteer artist Tilly Davey the works of Ainslie Village residents were exhibited at Front gallery in Lyneham. A total of 40 pieces were on display as part of the works titled ‘Make Stupidity History’.

The artworks were produced by the residents as part of our Art Haven program which runs twice a week onsite. We are so proud of all the residents who enthusiastically take part, for what they are capable of producing and the skills that they have learnt.

About the exhibition titled ‘Make Stupidity History’

The current body of works was created in the Art Haven at Ainslie Village by a group of dedicated residents working alongside volunteer art director, Tilly Davey. The artists utilise art practice as a means of experimentation and communication, as well as a way of coming to terms with various challenges and roadblocks that they are facing.

When asked what they would like to call the show, the Art Haven artists collectively decided on the theme of letting go of past misfortunes and mistakes, thereby making stupidity history. Creativity assists in this process, allowing us to not only reflect upon and let go of our pasts, but also to imagine potential futures and challenge our understanding of present situations.

Since the Art Haven was re-established 18 months ago, Tilly and the residents have fostered an emphasis on engagement with the wider community. They have exhibited in various locations around Canberra and are working towards an open day to be held at the Village in 2016. All donations and proceeds from the sale of artworks will go towards the continuation of this valuable project.
