What is Social Housing?

Social housing provides rental homes for individuals who are unable to find suitable accommodation in the private rental market.

All In for National Reconciliation Week 2026

27 May – 3 June 2026

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.

The #NRW2026 campaign was created in collaboration with Carbon Creative, a First Nations-owned and operated marketing and creative agency.

Artwork and artist

The #NRW2026 artwork is called Gaagal. Gumbaynggirr Bundjalung artist Otis Hope Carey explains its inspiration and significance:

‘All of my paintings connect to water. This artwork uses the ocean as a metaphor for people from all walks of life swirling together to be ‘all in’ for reconciliation.

‘The phrase ‘Gaagal’ translates to ‘Ocean’, and it is the totemic spiritual emblem of the Gumbaynggirr people. It’s a really important clan totem and holds a lot of healing elements for us.’

What is National Reconciliation Week?

The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

Wingecarribee Reconciliation Day

This year, we honour the community members who laid the foundations for reconciliation in the Wingecarribee more than 20 years ago. Through the establishment of the Wingecarribee Reconciliation Committee, these leaders brought truth‑telling to the forefront, preserved stories and histories long overlooked, and worked tirelessly to bring our community together in culturally respectful ways.

National Reconciliation Week ‘All In’ Atrium Exhibition

Celebrate National Reconciliation Week at the Atrium Civic Centre with the ‘All In’ Atrium Exhibition, showcasing inspiring artworks created by local students from across the Southern Highlands. The exhibition features works from Years 5 to 8 students and highlights the creativity, perspectives, and voices of young people within the community. Winners of the accompanying art competition will be announced during the exhibition week.

Wagga Wagga City Council NRW Film Club

Join us at the Wagga Wagga City Library for a screening of Araatika! Rise Up Reconciliation Week 2026 over a light meal. Araatika! Rise Up tells the story of a group of NRL greats who get together to create a pre-game ceremony to celebrate Aboriginal cultures, respond to the Māori Haka, and counter racism in rugby league. First Nations Experience of Democracy Tour

Join this tour and hear stories of how First Nations Australians have created change in politics. Learn about the Wiradjuri elders who travelled 150km to attend the opening of Old Parliament House. Hear about the activists who campaigned for a voice in Federal Parliament and the accomplishments of Neville Bonner, the first Aboriginal Australian to be elected to parliament.

Film: High Ground + Q&A

This screening showcases Arnhem Land following World War I, High Ground follows Travis (Simon Baker) former soldier turned policeman and a young Aboriginal man, Gutjuk (Jacob Junior Nayinggul). They team up to track down Baywara (Sean Mununggurr), a warrior blamed for terrorising white settlements. Join us for a Q&A with director Steven Johnson following the screening.

Wangka Wakanutja Exhibition Tours

This exhibition tells the Story of the Papunya Literature Production Centre showcases material from beautifully illustrated books which were created by the community of Papunya in the Northern Territory between 1979 and 1990.

Guided tours are available at 11:00am, 12:00pm and 1:00pm. Bookings are welcome but not essential.

First Nations Family History Tour

Our special ‘behind the scenes’ display of resources includes a visit to the Library’s Oral History recording studios and the Bringing Them Home Oral History Project. This project recorded 340 deeply personal stories from people affected by the laws and policies that created the Stolen Generations.

National Reconciliation Week Event: Voices Across Generations

The event will include a panel session emphasising cultural safety as the foundation of helping young people thrive into the future. The panel will feature Aboriginal and Torres leaders and community workers who live and work in the ACT and region. The panel discussion will be followed by cultural performances and lunch together at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre.

Reconciliation Week Flag Raising Ceremony

National Reconciliation Week is a time to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation. Join Albury City Council the local National Reconciliation Week Flag Raising Ceremony at QEII Square.

From 10:00 am, Aunty Edna Stewart will deliver the Welcome to Country and Darren Wighton will lead a Smoking Ceremony.

After the ceremony, head to the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) to connect over a cuppa.

Queanbeyan Reconciliation Walk

Join us for our annual Queanbeyan Reconciliation Walk on Tuesday 2 June. We will gather as normal on Trinculo Place at 9.30am before walking across the Queens Bridge, down to Collett Street before gathering for formal proceedings at the amphitheatre on the corner of Collett St and Morisset St.

If you’d like to participate, but feel the walk might be too difficult, you can meet us at the amphitheatre, corner of Collett and Morisset Streets.
