NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal Commences 1st January, 2014

January 16, 2014

On the 1st January, 2014 the overarching NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) commenced operation.  The NCAT replaces 23 different tribunals in NSW including the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal (CTTT).

The acting Minister for Justice, Mr Gallacher, stated that the “NCAT is a one-stop shop for almost all state tribunals making it easier for people in NSW to access the services they need.”  It is expected that the operations of the NCAT, as with the previous CTTT, will be with as little formality as is appropriate to each case.  CTTT matters will be heard in the Consumer and Commercial Division of the NCAT.
